Rotary Club of Bay City
Rotary Youth Exchange Program
What is Rotary?
Rotary is a nonpolitical and nonsectarian world wide volunteer service organization.
It was founded in Chicago, IL in 1905.
There are over 1.2 million business and professional members located
all over the world in more than 32,000 clubs who provide the
extensive network that provides support for Youth Exchange.
What is Rotary Youth Exchange?
For over 75 years, students and host families have broadened their horizons through Rotary Youth Exchange.
More than 80 countries and over 8,000 students each year participate in the program,
which is administered at the regional level by Rotary districts and at the local level by
Rotary clubs such as the The Bay City Rotary Club.
A student will leave their home country and travel to another country to study
and explore the wonders of their host country.
We thank you for your consideration and interest in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program.

Youth Exchange Program - Host Family
What responsibilities will I have as a host family?
You will be asked to accept the exchange student as a new member of your family.
The student will be governed not only by the rules of the program but by the rules of your household.
You are responsible for the safety of the exchange student the same as for your own children.
Although you might have a bit more of the soccer mom or dad for normal everyday activities, i
t is not your responsibility to act as a taxi service or a tour guide.
Rotarians for the hosting club will be helping in these areas.
How long would I host a student?
If you volunteer to be a hosting family you can expect a student to live with you for about 3 to 4 months,
but it varies depending on how many families are involved,
when the move date is convenient for the families and the student, holidays, vacations, etc.
Host Family 1: Late August - Early December
Host Family 2: Early December - Early March
Host Family 3: Early March - Mid June
What are my obligations as a host family?
The easiest way to explain this is to say that your exchange student
should be treated as you would treat your own child.
The only area you will probably have outside help will be transportation.
Otherwise, consider yourself to have another son or daughter.
Entering into hosting with this frame of mind is the most rewarding.
Ask any family that has hosted before.
How do I become a Rotary Youth Exchange Host Family?
It's very simple.
Contact one of our club Youth Exchange Officers listed below and
they will set up a meeting with you and your family to discuss further.
What is the Student Outbound program?
Central States Rotary Outbound Exchange provides students between the ages of 16 and 18 the opportunity of a lifetime! Its a chance to spend 11 months in another country learning the language and culture. Each year, about 250 boys and girls apply through their local Rotary Club and district. Students generally apply in August and September to go on exchange the next year. Outbound students and their parents are guided through months of orientation and information about the country of their exchange year. Outbound students typically stay with two or three Rotary-approved families and receive a monthly stipend for incidental expenses.
Rotary Youth Exchange outbound students need to be above average students who are eager for the chance to try new things and meet new people. You will learn about other cultures, about other people and about yourself. Contact a Rotary Club today for more information.
The outbound program has always been run by the districts
and is operated under the name of
Central States Outbound Exchanges, LLC (CSROBE)
as a wholly owned subsidiary of CSRYE.
