We are one month into the 2022-2023 Rotary year. We have heard from some amazing presenters. Kicking off our programs with "Meet Your Fellow Rotarian" was Bonnie Marsh and Alayna Wesener. Bonnie has been a member since 1995 and made a life of helping others and our community. The exact quote in my notes is "nonprofit junkie". 😉 Alayna is one of our newest members and has served on multiple boards throughout the GLBR. She currently is the Director of Marketing & Business Development for McLaren and is the owner of the local restaurant, Sushi Remix.
We heard from two Rotary Veterans in the "Wide World of Rotary". Norah Webster, shared how Rotary has been shaping her friendships, values, and career for the past 30 years. And we watched John Hewko, General secretary of Rotary International, present his speech from the 2022 Rotary International Convention.
In "Under the Radar Bay City", we heard from Earl Bovia, owner of Bay City Bill's Bar and Grill. He spoke to us about how he was able to not only help keep his own bar afloat during Covid, but also how he helped many other bars and restaurants by starting the Eat Local Bay County Facebook Page. Dani Munsch from Gougeon Brothers, introduced us to a more than 50-year-old family business in our community with an international reach. We got to learn some cool insider info and that the City of Bay City has made August 3rd Gougeon Brothers Day.
Make sure to mark your calendars for the many exciting events we have coming up over the next month!

We also want to share our thoughts and prayers for Dom Monastiere, who recently was diagnosed with cancer. Cards and phone calls are appreciated during this time.
Albert Bourla's story of how his parents survived the Holocaust provides a vivid picture of the Jewish experience in Thessaloniki. His story has important lessons today for all of us in our very troubled world.
