Here are the highlights from our September 24th, 2019 meeting.
Katherine Griffiths Speaks About CASA
Katherine Griffins from the CAN Council Great Lakes Bay Region was this week's guest speaker. She joined us to speak about the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Volunteer Program.
CASAs are just ordinary people doing extraordinary things for children who need a powerful voice in their corner. They are trained to help abused and neglected children through some of the toughest times in their lives by attending hearings, providing insights to judges and making recommendations on what actions would best benefit the child. They spend countless hours speaking to relatives, neighbors, teachers, and friends to really get to know the child they're helping.
Each CASA volunteer generally work with one sibling group and they work in partnership with attorneys and foster care workers as appointed officers of the court. They are often the only consistent adult a child has contact with during, and sometimes after, their case.
For more information on how you can be CASA please click this link: https://cancouncil.org/. The next class begins on Monday, Oct 28th.
