This month we honor Past District Governor, Paul Harris Fellow, and Past President of the Midland Noon Rotary Club, Ruby Iwamasa.
We are one month into the 2020-2021 Rotary year.  We have heard from three wonderful organizations - Studio 23, Bay Area Community Foundation, and Bay Arenac Community High School.

Tara Welch, Executive Director of Studio 23, provided information on how the studio is adapting in times of social distancing, including a virtual Chalk Walk.  This has provided increased awareness for the organization locally, and even globally, for the importance of a creative outlet during uncertain times.  If you would like more information, please visit https://www.studio23baycity.org/

Diane Fong, Executive Director of the Bay Area Community Foundation, presented on all of the support and resources that the foundation has provided to our community during the pandemic and flooding.  In addition to this information, our club was also given a sneak preview of the new park being installed at Veteran's Park in Bay City.  Our club donated $25,000 to this project while under the leadership of Past President Brenda Scramlin.  If you would like to read about the park, please visit https://www.secondwavemedia.com/baycity/features/play-city-park-to-open-in-august.aspx

During our last meeting of July, Chanda Swartz, Superintendent of Bay Arenac Community High School, presented on how their school is meeting the needs of at-risk students in our area.  The school offers both in person and virtual learning in addition to having all staff trained in trauma informed teaching.  This practice allows the staff to meet the students where they are while engaging them at the same time.  If you would like to learn more about the BACHS Bulldogs or how you can volunteer at the organization, please visit https://www.bachs.us/#

It was a wonderful month to hear about so many things happening in our community even when we cannot be out and about to see them. As we head into August, let's remember that as Rotarians we must strive to follow the Four Way Test and help promote it in our community.

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
