Today's Agriculture

Descr: American agriculture has changed dramatically over the last few decades. Less than one percent of the U.S. population is directly involved in food production today and few understand how and why these changes have taken place. Lack of understanding causes confusion and sometimes contention, but while today?s farms may look different than they did a generation ago, farmers have not compromised their values or commitment to producing safe, wholesome, affordable, and nutritious food. Agriculture continues to provide jobs and contribute importantly to maintaining a quality rural way of life in the United States. We invite your organization to learn more about the positive impact of soybean production and animal agriculture in your community by hearing directly from a local farmer as they discuss their role in producing food and meeting the expectations of consumers while providing responsible animal care.

Addressing the Issue of Abuse of Seniors

Descr: Abuse of and taking advantage of seniors is a more prevalent problem than most of us recognize. Bay County received a grant from the US Department of Justice to implement ways to respond to the issue of abuse among people 50 and older. Through a survey, it was discovered that one out of every 4 people in Bay County aged 50 or greater either have experienced abuse or know of someone who has experienced abuse. This is a widespread and growing issue across the county, especially in the area of financial abuse. This affects anyone who knows people who are 50 or older. It can happen to anyone at any income level, any educational level and in any neighborhood. Julie Chamberlain will provide information that speaks to this growing issue.
